ONAM 2023

 

Onam is a traditional and widely celebrated harvest festival in the southern Indian state of Kerala. It is one of the most important festivals in Kerala. and is celebrated with great fervor . It is celebrated every year in august and September. People celebrate it with full fervor like –

Pookalam:  People create complex and colorful flower Rangoli designs,  known as "Pookalam," in front of their homes.



Onasadya :  The highlight of Onam is the grand feast known as "Onasadya." It is a vegetarian feast consisting of a variety of dishes, served on a banana leaf.


   
      Games and Sports: Various traditional games and sports competitions are organized during the festival, adding an element of fun and entertainment.


   Traditional dance and music –  Mohiniattam and kathakali are the traditional dance of Kerala which is perform on this occasion. 



Why Onam is celebrate ?

Onam is a time for family gathering and cultural festive. The festival ales serves as a reminder of the values of equality and prosperity.  Onam is celebrated to honor King Mahabali. express gratitude for the harvest, showcase Kerala's culture, promote unity and harmony, strengthen family and community bonds, and boost the local economy through tourism. It is a vibrant and joyous festival that reflects the cultural and agricultural significance of Kerala.
